Stairway Hike, San FranciscoThe announcement:This weekend's hike will be a Stairway Hike in the City. We plan on leaving our house at 9, riding to Colma and taking Bart downtown. We'll get off at Powell street, which is where we'll all meet up to start. It takes 15 to 20 minutes to ride Bart from Colma to Powell - making it quicker than driving, with a WHOLE lot less stress than trying to drive in the City, and parking is easy and free. So, plan on starting the hike at Powell at about 10:00 to 10:15. I don't have details of where we'll hike yet. Perhaps I'll send something out later this week. Otherwise, we'll just make it up as we go. At some point, I expect we'll hike around Union Square. We might make it out to the North Beach area along the way. Plan on some amount of moderate to hard uphill hikes, punctuated with dawdling to poke our heads in shops and snickering at the tattooed, spike-haired locals. We'll eat lunch at some restaurant along the way. For those that linger after the hike, we'll probably have supper up there as well. Feel free to leave the hike at any time if you need to get back. Otherwise, I imagine the hike proper will last about 4 hours, to be followed by a greater proportion of sticking our heads in shops as we work our way back to Bart. We'll coordinate via cell phones and/or ham radio. For the hams in the group, we'll talk on the "super secret simplex frequency" of 147.57. For the gallery of pictures from the hike, click HERE. |
