Rhus Ridge

The announcement:

Joanne and Kathy will be hiking this Sunday, Sept 8, at Rhus Ridge in Los Altos Hills. This is on the hard end of moderate because of the steepness of the first mile of the hike. After that it is a moderate hike up Black Mountain. How far we go depends on how we feel. We may go all the way to the backpack camp on Montebello Ridge and then again we may not.

We plan on leaving my house at 7:30 AM on Sunday. Yeah, that's right - 7:30 AM. Parking is limited at the site and is usually full by 8:00 on the weekends. If you want to join us, make sure you bring plenty of water and some food. We will probably be out a minimum of three hours. Also, if you have hiking sticks, it would be a good idea to bring them. They will save your knees on the way back down.

The hike:

On Sunday, we had a prep hike for the Great Challenge Hike of 2002. Joanne, Bob, Kathy, Chris and Mike are all prequalified to complete the Great Hike on October 12. Of course, anyone is welcome to come, but at least this group of people know that they can easily do the challenge hike as Sunday's hike was very nearly the same hike, only we did it starting at Rhus Ridge rather than Fall Creek.
