Sausalito
Description
Another one of our favorite hikes. The day begins with a leisurely train ride to the city, a hike or bus ride to Pier 39, a ferry crossing to Sausalito, and a short fun hike.
The hike is easy to moderate on the "Wimble Scale". No water or food is needed, but a camera may be handy.
Directions
- Take CalTrain to the City.
- Take the bus (30 is good) towards Pier 39. You'll have to walk part of the way.
- By tickets on the Blue and White Ferry for Sausalito. The fee is about 5 or 6 dollars each way.
- Leave the ferry dock in Sausalito and head southwest past the park to Bridgeway.
- Head west on Bridgeway on the south side of the street, passing some shops and a vine covered hillside until you come to Nevada Street.
- Take Nevada Street to the southwest, for a short steep climb. There are wild blackberries along the side of the narrow, winding road, which has no sidewalks, so watch for traffic.
- You can take the first left at Marin Drive if you want a shorter hike. Otherwise continue to the next left, which is Rodeo Avenue.
- Rodeo Avenue makes an S-shaped route, past beautiful (and extremely expensive) houses, and you can catch some great views of the bay between houses.
- Rodeo Avenue joins to become Woodward Avenue. Continue along Woodward Avenue.
- There really isn't any wrong way to go here, as everything pretty much ends back at the bay. You can continue until the street becomes Cazneau Avenue, when then heads back towards the bay.
- Back at Bridgeway, you can head southeast and explore some more houses and piers, or head northwest and explore the funky shops and restaurants on your way back to the ferry.
- Return the way you came. Or, explore Pier 39, or Ghirardelli Square, or walk back through China Town to the train.

Gwen, Kathy, and Michael head into Sausalito on the Blue and White Ferry.
The city, while mostly civilized, does contain some pretty aggressive wildlife.
