The Announcement

It's time for the big hike at Big Basin. Dust off the shoes, load up the camera, make a lunch and a couple of snacks, bring lots of water, cause it's a big deal, baby.

We'll leave here a 8 am. It will take about an hour and a half to get to Big Basin. Plan on 5 or 6 hours of hike. What - 5 or 6 hours? You bet, but it's worth it. Besides the scintillating company of Kathy and myself, you'll see what is probably the most spectacular falls in the near area. Trails are wide and well maintained.

This is not a particularly hard hike - probably not as hard as the Fall Creek hike last year. But it is longer. Planning and anticipation is the key. So, again, bring food and water. Sticks might be helpful, but are not required. Sneakers may have a problem for a short portion of the hike, and there may be water we have to step through. After the hike, we'll probably want to have a small picnic before we head back. So, 3 hours of total driving and 5 or 6 hours of hiking will make for a full day.

You will get lots of great pictures, though. And, for this week only, we're offering double mileage points to those who come.

The Hike

Well, I lied. Actually, I just forgot how hard this hike is. Perhaps we were just pushing it a bit hard, but I think most of the group was really worn out before the end of this hike. I think we can say that this is a fun ten mile hike. Unfortunately, it's 14 miles or more.
