We're ready to get on the ship and begin the competition when Larry says he's not sure if he's up to the games. Kathy blows in his ear and he decides to come anyway.

Finally on board the ferry, everyone stands in silence while Robin performs the opening ceremony by praying to the hiking Gods to make this a good competition.

The first competition is "flirting with strangers". Sherman adopts a jaunty pose and tips his hat for every lady that walks by.
DSCN2802.jpg
The second contest is cookie hurling. Everone stands at the rail, ready to hurl their cookies on command.

Through the cattle gates, into the delousing pool, and they let us onto the island.

Larry checks out the weather, Dirk checks out the course map, and Kathy tells everyone the rules to the competition once more.

The next round of games takes place up the top of the short, steep shoulder of the island.

The next competition is "tourist posing". Julia pulls into a commanding lead with her stylistic "quote marks" gesture. Dirk looses points for actually looking at the tourist attraction rather than posing for the picture.

Larry is the big winner in the striptease competition. His pants are off in a flash and he gets high points for his gyrations.
DSCN2812A.jpg
Kathleen is first to start the "Hiker Hugging" competition. Robin offers her water before the ordeal gets too far along. So far, she is hugging only Mike. Larry prepares to jump on next as well.

Kathleen records Kathy's distance in the water bottle toss.

While walking to the site of the next competition, looking back towards the docks, it looks like a pirate cove back there.

The "rolling down the mountain" event had to be called off due to unanticipated construction closures.
DSCN2815.jpg
Dirk picks up a few points by correctly identifying the Forget-Me-Nots that line the trailside.

We're ready to start the fence hurdling contest. Joanne prepares to do it "Fosbury Flop" style -- backwards. Janna prepares to capture the results on film in case it's close.
DSCN2816A.jpg
Dirk is first up in the lymmeric competition. "There once was a man from Nantucket," he begins.

The next event is "musical bench". Dirk, using his ham radio, finds a suitable station with music.
DSCN2818.jpg
As expected, Larry is the first one to loose at "musical bench".

DSCN2824.jpg
Ah-ha! It WAS a pirate cove, after all.
DSCN2824A.jpg
The competitors get ready for the extremely dangerous "spitting into the wind" competition.

The final contest -- cool walking. Kathleen's cool walk is the most elaborate and involves slouching as well, so she's in the rear of the line. She picks up major points here.
DSCN2826.jpg
Kathleen and Julia, tied for first, have to break the tie by singing sea chanties while doing a jig. Robin is the dancing judge, and Kathy, standing by with a stick, makes sure no one sings the wrong lyrics or sings out of tune.

Halfway through the performance, the contestants must freeze in their position while Kathy walks around and helps Robin judge them on authenticity in their dance steps.

It's been an exhausting day of competition. Now it's back to Tiburon for the post-competition dinner.
